VFA Boot Camp Master Class Details

Your Boot Camp Master Class experience encompasses the same exact material as our online LOMC, only it is in a group setting and live in person. You will begin on a Friday evening. If you are unable to commute from your home to class each day, Voices For All always has a block of rooms set aside at the hotel where your Master Class is being held, making it easy for you to make a reservation and usually save a few dollars too. We can also help with your travel arrangements if needed.

Upon arriving, you will check in and relax until the VFA Industry Overview, at 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Friday evening. This will allow you all to get to know each other, and have some laughs as you learn about the Voice Acting industry. After the overview we encourage you to get to bed early, because you have a very busy weekend about to begin.

On Saturday morning at 8 a.m., we will begin teaching the most in depth and comprehensive Technique Workshop in the industry, the VFA Voice Acting Technique Workshop. This is where you begin to learn how to actually sound and perform, like a true voice acting professional. The technique workshop is very hands on. You will be working with scripts, developing characters, and doing intensive exercises. Once again, this is when you will begin to actually realize your potential. It is one thing to have a good voice, it is a very different thing to know how to perform in the studio.

The following is a sample of some of the many topics we will cover in the Technique segment ...

  • Capturing Your Audience
  • Analyzing a Script
  • Methods for Effective Delivery
  • 12 Different Markets for Voiceovers
  • Audition Etiquette
  • Accents In Voiceover
  • Character Voices
  • Microphone Techniques
  • Letting Go of Who You Are
  • Getting Ready For The Gig
  • Nerves And Mistakes ... The Big Fear
  • And Much More ...

This first part of this workshop typically runs from 8 a.m. until about 11 a.m.

Immediately following will be the VFA Marketing Workshop. This class is crucial to the success of our students. You can have the voice, and the technique to effectively perform voiceover jobs, but you need to actually know how to get the jobs. You need to have a plan to follow, to best ensure your success in this new career.

You will receive a real marketing plan, to jump-start you for the first few weeks and beyond. We know that when most people dream of being successful Voice Actors, they see themselves in the studio actually performing scripts. There is no question that this is a very rewarding experience. However, the fact is that being a Voice Actor is not only an art, but also a business, and this is why the VFA team has designed such an in depth yet easy to follow plan, for growing your clientele, and getting consistent VO work. We have included every possible detail, because once again, the future of VFA is dependent on your success.

The following is a small list of just some of the many topics we will cover in this Marketing segment ...

  • Contracts And Unions
  • Competition
  • Starting A Home Studio
  • Common Mistakes
  • Marketing Online
  • Local Marketing
  • Online Agencies
  • Rate Cards And How To Price Your Market
  • And Much More ...

At 12 p.m., the class will break for a much needed one hour lunch break. VFA will treat everyone to lunch at a nearby restaurant. This is also a great time to get some answers to any leftover questions.

At 1 p.m., we reconvene to finish up the Marketing Workshop, which runs until about 2:30 p.m.  At that time, we will jump right back into Technique. That workshop typically runs from 2:30 p.m. until about 6 p.m.

So, in these first two workshops, you will learn all of the necessary components of being a successful voiceover artist, including the business end of this industry, and what you need to do to effectively market yourself, and actually get regular voiceover work. Just as mentioned above, you will leave with an actual plan to get you rolling.

Around 6 p.m., the Technique Workshop will end, and there will be a break from us finally, for you to relax and grab some dinner on your own.

We recommend that after this, you hit the sack and rest up for the next day.

At 8 a.m., Sunday morning, the class will meet once again, in the same room, but under very different conditions. This is the VFA Staying On Track Workshop. In this workshop, we dive into discussing the most common roadblocks that impede peoples success, and what we might choose to do to get around these roadblocks. Knowing what to do is half the battle when it comes to success. Getting yourself to do what you have to do, is the other half. This is a very relaxed and informal class, and we encourage you to dress comfortably in something very casual. This class will end at approximately 9 a.m.

At 9 a.m., the VFA Home Studio Q+A Workshop begins. In this session, we will discuss all of the pertinent topics with regards to setting up your own home studio... the right way. We will explain what you need to put it together, and how to do it. You will be given a detailed list of what equipment we recommend, and why. VFA can even get you great deals on all of this gear, and anything else you may need. Expect to experience information overload with this informative session. But fear not, all of our graduates are encouraged to email or call when they get ready to set up their studio, and we will help you through the entire process.

VFA will even do a Home Studio Assessment (HSA) and critique your home studio for the proper sound, so you do not even need to know if it sounds right!  We will work with you one-on-one to get your studio up to current industry standards.  Set it and forget it!

At 10 a.m., we will spend the next few hours in another Technique Workshop.  During this time, we will reinforce the lessons learned on Saturday regarding technique, sounding natural and script preparation.

After this final workshop, you will be equipped with the information needed to launch your voiceover career.  Your next step will be to set up your Home Studio, and Voices For All will help you along the way.  Once your studio has passed the HSA, you will schedule your Ninety Minute One-on-One Demo Prep Session to assist you with using your home studio, answering your VO-related questions, or possibly helping you prepare your scripts.  This session is for you to use as you choose.

Next up, you will schedule your Two Hour Demo Recording Session. This is the session where you and your producer/coach will work together, on the scripts you have been preparing, to create your first TWO Professionally Produced Voiceover Demos from your own home studio!

When your demo recording session has concluded, the work has just begun for VFA's Production Department. VFA Engineer Brian Mansell will begin the VFA Post Production Process. This is when we work with your demo to meticulously place the proper background music, add the needed effects, and process your voice. Your audio files will then be edited, mixed, and mastered, to provide you with truly professional and polished, commercial and narration voiceover demos. Both demos will be encoded, and then uploaded to VFA's servers, and you will be notified that you are now live on the internet. This demo is one of the keys to your initial startup, and it is imperative that it is created with a team of voiceover professionals.

Once your demo has been completed, you can sit back and congratulate yourself. You made it. You did it. Your new career has been launched, and you have a team behind you all the way.
You are now a Trained Professional Voice Actor.

Also included with the VFA MC is a custom written Pro Tools Manual by veteran sound engineer Paul Benedetti, specifically for beginners doing voiceovers, using your home studio! (We find that about 90% of our graduates agree that having a home studio is the best way to go.) Not only does this manual walk you through the process from beginning to end, with actual screen shots to help you along the way, but we even include a Pro Tools Session Template file for Mac and PC! This means you don't even need to know how to set up a session, because it is already done for you. You don't need to know how to use Plug-Ins, or even know what they do, or even what they are, because they are all set up for you. The VFA Pro Tools Template and Manual have been meticulously built and written, so that you can sit down at your home studio and RECORD VOICEOVERS!

The fact is, Pro Tools is the industry standard recording software program, and the home version you would be using, works the same way as what the Pros use. Professional sound engineers spend decades perfecting the use of recording software such as Pro Tools, and we know this is not something you could, or would even want to do. So we have taken the learning curve out of it for you. This alone has tremendous value for all Master Class students. Unless of course you have a next door neighbor who just happens to be a recording engineer, and will be available to you 24/7, to record all of your voiceover auditions and jobs... No? We didn't think so. The VFA Pro Tools Template and Manual is a huge part of starting your voiceover business.

You are also a member of the VFA family, and we are here to support you in any way we can.

One of those ways is by giving you a free personal webpage with a free lifetime membership. This page will have all of your pertinent VO contact info, your BIO, and both of your VFA Professional Voiceover Demos, so anyone you send there can hear them. You will have a private web address to give out to people for direct access to your webpage. This address is not on the VFA website and they will not see any of the other VFA Talent from this address.

You will also have access to our growing list of online resources. As soon as you graduate, your login will be unlocked to access the Resources section of our website, where literally hundreds of links reside to assist you.

And of course, we are always available by email or phone, to help you in any way we can from this day forward. Whether you need assistance with your room setup for your home studio, critique from us on an audition recording, or maybe just some advice on your marketing materials, we are here to support you. We actually encourage you to send us your very first recording and pics of your space. As we mentioned previously, if you are unable to commute from your home to class each day, Voices For All has a block of rooms set aside at the hotel where your Master Class is being held, making it easy for you to make a reservation. We want to make sure everything is just right before you begin! Never be afraid to ask for our help, whether it is before your Master Class, one day after your Master Class, or many years later.

Once you become a member of the VFA family, you remain a member for life.
